The Oscars’ Fashion Forecast

The busiest time in entertainment and fashion is here. The height of award show season is coming while the Fall 2012 RTW shows are being presented. Oscar night is only a week away and between the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and Grammy Awards shows the red carpet has been exploding with memorable fashion moments. At the same time, Spring 2012 Couture and Fall 2012 RTW shows have been presented and stylists are in a fury to snatch the best pieces for their celebrities attending the Oscars. Between the hype of award season and the excitement over fashion week, everyone has been anticipating what will be on the Academy Award red carpet.

I took a look at the styles and trends of the past three award shows and of the show-stopping finale gowns from couture & New York fashion weeks to give you my predictions of this year’s Oscar looks. I found that each award show had three distinct categories of dress style and color: black & sleek, light & beaded and fuchsia. I predict the Academy Awards will keep to these trends, but elevate the style and shape. Spring 2012 Couture and fall 2012 RTW have been presenting tan, gold, cream and black decadently beaded gowns, with very minimal color. I expect a few attendees to wear a bold, standout color, but with the trends of the red carpet this season and on the runways, light color seems to be the way to go.

Here’s a summary of what happened this awards season, and what the runways are predicting for next week’s show.

These black dresses were nothing simple, sparkle, gold accents and high slits made these celebrities stand out at the Grammys.

Light blue, cream and gold gowns brought refindness to a typically funky red carpet.

… and the funky is back. Wacky doesn’t begin to explain these next looks. The pope, guns, underwear and Timberlands left me baffled.

Here, sleek black & royal blue dresses exude elegance and their structure keeps these gowns from being a bore.

Fushia and red complimented Natalie Portman and Angelinia Jolie perfectly. Their looks were fresh and not overdone, the perfect choice for the kind of award show the Golden Globes is.

The most common look of the night was beaded, light colored dresses with classic sihlouets.

And next are a few of the worst dressed attendees.

Although Julie Bowen was on trend with the pale, refined gown, strong women wearing dainty sleeves just look odd.

The fuchsia pops up again at the SAG awards and these women can wear it well.

Emma Stone rocks the little black dress by wearing one with an unexpected skirt shape and delicate lace top.

And of course, the style at every awards show, cream gowns with sparkle, sparkle and more sparkle!
